My head and my heart are here
Visiting West Texas recently I saw this sign:
...and I decided to interpret it as a life instruction — although I assume it was meant to protect from rattlesnake encounters.
Staying on the path has meant a lot of different things for me recently: buy fewer things, meditate longer, drink more water, be less judgmental, let myself feel grief, let myself feel joy, slow down, care for my students, my family and friends, and listen more deeply when folks talk to me. Talk less, generally. Slow down again.
An inspiring meditation training with Will Duncan this winter happened exactly when I needed to deepen my practice. And the other day, co-hosting a Breathe-In fundraising event with another incredible meditation teacher and friend, Paul Weinfield, has moved me deeper into the path of offering time and effort to help out in small ways as often as I can. There will be more Breathe-In's with Paul coming up, so stay tuned.
So, what sets you back on your path? Sometimes it can be as simple as drinking a glass of water. Sometimes it's as complicated as showing up to clean out your childhood home after your Mom has died. As we move more deeply into Spring, slow down and notice that the earth is softening under your feet. Notice plants pushing up through the dirt. Your system is connected to all of that too — opening up, changing. It is beautiful but it can be overwhelming too. I always always play this song in the Spring.
As a wise teacher once said years ago in a Jivamukti class: “People are always asking me 'What is my path?? What is my path??' I tell them 'THIS is your path! You are in it. You are on it.'" (was that you, Dana Flynn?)
AND on to Business
Speaking of Spring, Marcus and I are doing our upstate retreat in East Chatham at the very beginning of May. Sign up! I can promise you deep yoga practice, beautiful food, and qigong in the meadow. There are a few spots left. Learn more and sign up here.
Class Changes
I teach Monday mornings vinyasa at 9:30am now at Prema in Cobble Hill and my Qigong vinyasa class is now Thursdays at 8:15am (at Prema Fulton).
Body Breath Heart is on hiatus until early Summer. We are planning a little 5 day morning intensive — stay tuned.
